Sound quality first!

May 8, 2019

READING TIME: 1 MIN

In order to guarantee a certain sound quality and thus offer a high-quality, faithful product that provides the user with a unique experience, PEOPEO worked with the best French acousticians during the development of its VOODOO loudspeaker.

It's no longer a matter of course that sound reproduction is partly determined by the broadcast source. But did you know that other criteria also come into play?

Audio quality? Just a speaker issue?

Taste and color play an important role in our perception. Sound quality can be highly subjective, and everyone places greater or lesser importance on it. Whether you're a headphone fan, a "save the vinyl" campaigner or a head-in-the-box enthusiast, everyone has different tastes and expectations from the outset. Education and the social-cultural factors specific to each individual play an important role in the perception of sound quality.

Then there are the technical features, this time measurable and explainable.
After all, sound quality also depends on the source file used to listen to your favorite sound. Between the initial recording of a sound and the final version in our hands and "in fine" in our ears, many stages have taken place. Steps that often degrade the initial recording.

After recording, the music is processed in several ways. On the one hand, to balance frequencies and different sound amplitudes, and on the other, to adapt it to the various media available, such as CDs, online platforms and so on. This is when the music is compressed. The aim is to reduce the size of a digital audio stream for transmission and/or storage. This is where the usual " audio formats " come in.

What is a compressed sound format?

Audio compression reduces file size by irreversibly removing information. For example, the highest and lowest frequencies are removed. Many codecs result in lossy compressed files that are far less qualitative...
These include: AAC, MP3, MPEG-4, MPEG-7, MPEG-21, RealAudio, VGF, WMA, AVS...

What's the best audio format?

There is a lossless compression method called "compaction", which offers a "looseless " format like Flac. These are the preferred formats, considered to be of the highest audio quality. However, these formats are still not widely used...

We also recommend using an audio platform that uses these high-definition formats, such as the French QOBUZ platform.

So, as you will have understood, the better the quality of the source file, the more pleasant the sound experience, so remember to give priority to your files. L'VOODOO portable loudspeaker adapts to all formats, guaranteeing you a moment of pure pleasure.
